Prince of Vengeance (Dragon Prince Chronicles #2) by Phillips

Prince of Vengeance is a wonderful addition to the Dragon Prince Chronicles. I picked this one up about a month after reading Unfortunate Events because I needed to see what was going to happen. If you haven’t read the first book, watch out for spoilers below!

Following the attack on the army, Kahtan is slowly recovering in Larkspur manor with his friends. But they haven’t escaped the turmoil in the kingdom, and the Dragon Prince isn’t through yet.

Ratings

Story: 5/5

Worldview: 4/5

Story is a 5/5 because it’s definitely picking up steam from the foundation set in book 1. Kahtan and his friends face real danger and each decision has consequences. We start to get a real idea of the scope of Prince Talikin’s plans, as well as the influence of the Shadowed One. As always, I love the tone of the novel. Sage and Maisely are easily the funniest characters, and they definitely make me laugh out loud!

In terms of worldview, this novel suffers from the same issue as the previous one. Namely, the characters that talk about God (the Creator) tend to flip-flip between being mean or nice. It was great seeing Kahtan want to learn more about God and consider accepting Jesus as his savior, so that was a great arc. He’s definitely on the fence, but he’s close!

All in all, I love seeing all these emerging themes of finding courage in God no matter the circumstances.

Overall Thoughts

Prince of Vengeance (Dragon Prince Chronicles #2)

In any case, I love this series and I’ll definitely be sharing my reviews for the next books as they come out! If you like Christian fantasy but want more medieval non-magical setting, check out Once I Knew by Victoria Lynn here!
